CEO OF ROYAL BAR IN ONIRU BEACH, JAMIU TAYODE SPEAKS ON HIS RISING PROFILE FROM NURTW MEMBER TO BAR OWNER

Comrade Jamiu Tadeyo is the current Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport workers Marina Chapter and he’s also the owner of the wave making Royal Bar situated in Oniru Beach. Islanders ran into him recently and he had a chit chat session with the Publisher Ola Muhammed on his vision as a comrade in the labor union and as an entrepreneur.

How’s life as a union executive and as an entrepreneur?

I thank God for my life and that of my family. I’m also grateful to God for the highly influential people in the society whom am privileged to have met and whose contributions in my life has been impactful.

How did you come about the idea of running a Social Bar here on the Beach?

Like I said earlier that in the course of my activities am privileged to have met high profile individuals in the society and they inspire me greatly. These people advises me on a regular basis on the need to diversify and being a businessman aside serving as an official in the transport union I’m mostly guided on the need to have a good foresight and also to diversify. So I decided to start a bar business and till date I have no course to regret making such venture.

How long have you been running the bar?

I’ve been running it for three years now.

Do you operate on a daily basis?

We run the bar from Fridays to Sundays, except if by special order in form of private occasions like Birthdays, get together etc then we can open on any other day.

Do you intend to open another outlet?

By the grace of God it is my wish to have another outlet on Elegushi Beach.

So what has been the experience in the past three and a half years?

I give glory to God because it is through the proceeds I make from the bar that I feed my family and even pay my Children school fees. I believe and operate on the need to always save for the rainy day. Once you invest and diversify I believe one will always have course to smile.

Do you see yourself quitting Labor activities someday?

God is the one that calls the shot we’re just human beings operating under his dictates. If God reveals to me that I should step aside, why not? Someday one will have to give the youths looking up to us a chance to start wherever we must have stopped, while we stay back to guide them whenever the need arises.

What’s your take on the new traffic law banning union touts from taxing commercial drivers at the bus stops?

It is welcome development because in my own local government the chairman of our union organizes seminars where facilitators are invited to give us the orientation on the need for us to see commercial drivers as our members. I believe with the new law people in the union will have a change of heart, because the government is of the interest of the people.

How long have you been in the Union?

It’s my eighteenth year now

So what caliber of guests patronizes Royal Bar?

Royal Bar is a classy bar where we serve premium brands of exotic wines and drinks. You will never find cheap drinks in our bar in view of this we have high profiled people as patrons of our bar.

What advice do you have for your Union members?

I’ll advise them to adhere strictly to the new traffic laws and cooperate with the Lagos state government. Like my chairman always advice we must be of good conduct and relate with commercial drivers as our brothers.
