CELEBRITIES SPEAKS ON LATE AMB OLUSHOLA'S LEGACY

KOFFI

Hope you enjoyed the match today?

Well it was fun but it got more serious because the referee didn’t know it was a novelty match and started taking very strict decisions but it was fun knowing that we are not professionals and by the end of first half we had only conceded two goals and returned one. One was actually a penalty a fake penalty because the referee didn’t know what’s up.

Have you ever played football before?

My football career just kicked off yesterday.

Tell us how much do you know about Ambassador Olusegun Olushola?

Well he was a veteran Nigerians foremost broadcaster, an ambassador and the man who paved the way for what entertainment turned out to be today in the arts especially theatre. He was the man who created village headmaster and a whole lot of other programs that we hardly knew about and someone who stood for values of Nigerians both at home and in Diaspora especially from the ethnic angle he was someone who believed so much in tradition and represented that on different levels indeed he was a great man a very great man and unlike most great people who are hardly celebrated like the popular saying that "a prophet is not usually celebrated in his hometown" but this great man was celebrated both home and abroad. He was the reason why we could have emancipation camp for the victims of the Liberia War; he was the one who instituted the village in Oru in OGUN State where we were able to rehabilitate a lot of Liberians who lost their close relations and property during the War and needed a place of succor. Indeed the man did a great lot for humanity.

So how do you feel playing in his honour today?

You see I wish he was here doing this for him because when he was alive we had this good rapport anytime we meet at event he was always throwing jives at me, I was looking to be someone like him in future. He was one of the people you look up to; you emulate the values they stand for which was the reason why they were still relevant up till the time they died. How many of us will be celebrated when we turn 60 not to talk of 70 or 80 but this man was celebrated all his life and this are the things we need to aim for that is "VALUES" the likes of Wole Soyinka they are being celebrated from just writing and standing for human right not how much they had in the bank when they were young, not how much they were able to steal, not what brand of cars they drove but for the values they stood for so people like this inspires me a lot I look up to people like that . A lot of people will say I like Mandela but here we are pursuing Yahoo money so Ambassador Olusola for me stood as one of these people I look up to a lot in terms of those great values he is one of those reasons I believe more in my ethnic personality than being a foreigner I would rather be home grounded and have values that are close to home that my people are proud of because of somebody like Ambassador Olusola.

Looking at your career would prefer to have been playing football?

I will never play football Ludo yes but football never. I fell yesterday and I did today again so I think that will be enough for the year.

How much do you know about the late Icon, Ambassador Olusola?

Actually I don’t know much about him because I don’t live much in the country but since I came back I have been hearing great things about him though I don’t follow histories that much but I think from what people are saying he was indeed an Icon to reckon with if he wasn’t people will not be here doing this for him to his honour today. So am happy we are all here celebrating him it’s really cool.

What do have to say about your opponents?

Well this is just a fun thing so I can tell you for sure everybody was amazing it was really nice to hang around with different characters of people, celebrities, different personalities and calibers of people it’s really great.

Looking at your career would you have preferred playing football?

I never regretted being who I am today because boxing has really taken a big part of my life .I am a football fan though wherever I go and I see them playing I love to join them because it’ s all about fun.

He was a great man when he was alive actually a great gem, somebody people love so much they admire him when he was alive he was an inspiration, a great mentor and that he will forever be.

Do you feel you would have loved football better?

If I would love football not at this time now age is no more on my side and that is what killing football is in Nigeria faking age and other stuffs. I can play football though I love it because it’s my second choice but playing as a professional I can’t. My families are football fans so I think football is great but not for me at this point.

What’s your impression about your opponents?

Well the better side actually won because they played well, we didn’t have better players so they deserved to win.

My name are Mike Anoucha popularly know as M C Ice water on air personality Eko Fm, Rainbow Fm, Traffic Radio.

Being the commentator of this match today how do you feel?

Wow I feel very great and honoured. This the third time I will be doing this, the first time I did was for this purpose also at Unilag we had a whole lot of celebrities who came around, then I was paid to do it somewhere else again and here I am today again doing it so it is really fantastic it shows we all can do something you know I don’t have to play I did it for the commentating box so to speak and I made people laugh and catch their fun why still commentating on the match.

How much do you know about the Icon Ambassador Olusola?

That is a great man to talk about. He is some one I see a father figure in him, the first time I will be so fortunate to meet with him was at the Nigeria Broadcasters Merit Awards last year and that was when he was inducted as the grand patron and when you see him you will see everything right he is one you should make a model and not just the people we have out there trying to make money. He was a cultural Ambassador, tourism Ambassador and anything that has to do with the young ones the youth not untill he died a lot of things I saw about him I was like wow this man is far more beyond what I saw but seeing him alone he has this likeable character I fell in love with him the first day I heard about him and when I heard he died I was like God why now. For him I had to this I had an event to go but I had to tell somebody to attend on my behalf just to be here to honour this great individual. The whole of Nigeria and the Media should have been here because he has touched almost every structure of the society.

Looking at your career would have rather preferred to be a footballer?

I used to play football. Back in the days, when I play my other opponents refuse to play not that I play too well but I have a very strong leg and if you come in contact with me you will certainly go down so I am still looking forward to when I can play football again.

What will you say about the performance of your opponents?

It was really fantastic. Cossy Orjiafor was just defending, attacking and at this same time confusing people with her football. We also had a lot of people who played really well like Charles Channels, Felix Duka, D don, and people I never thought would be here also D J Boombastic we did this together last two years at Unilag and here today again, a whole lot of people of people I never expected to be here to come out and do this it was really amazing removing whoever you are been a celebrity and been a normal person and everybody here today did really well in respective of those I mentioned their names.

Are you a football fan?

Am not a football fan. A whole lot of my friends never expected me to be here I do not watch football even when I talk about Chelsea then probably I am forced to do that but football is not go area for me but I just had to be here to honour this great man.

So you wouldn’t have preferred football for a career?

I wound not tell you that I wouldn’t have been successful but if it was by ability I am not sure I would have made heads way.

What do you have to tell the people who honoured Ambassador Olusola today?

Yeah I really appreciate everybody coming here today it really goes far to show that we appreciate ourselves and I want to use this as point to say not until someone dies before we honour any great man lets do this when the person is alive but for the people coming today it really shows we appreciate a lot and I am sure when this will be out on Media it will be in history that I was there running the commentary for the Novelty Match for the great Ambassador Olusola.

I don’t know much about him but I know he is an Ambassador to another country and that’s I know about him but I know he was a very popular person on TV, the Papers and so on.

Do you feel you would have preferred playing than just watching?

Watching was really ok you know football you have to be very fit and I am not fit all so I couldn’t have been able to do it especially running in the pitch.

What’s your take on the performance of the celebrities that played today?

Yeah I applaud them they did a great job entertaining us in the remembrance of a great man that is the whole idea lets get entertained and be happy for an Icon.
