Court Remands Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi in Ikoyi Custodial Centre, Adjourns Murder Trial to July 3

Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi known as Ahmed Ajiran, who is standing trial on allegations of murder, was today arraigned before Justice A.T. Muyideen at the Igbosere High Court, Lagos.

During the proceedings, the court was informed that Ahmed Ajiran had, over the past two months, been attending his trial from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti. Justice Muyideen reportedly held that, given the nature of the charge, it was improper for the defendant to remain in police custody for such a period and subsequently ordered that he be remanded at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre pending further proceedings.

Ahmed Ajiran was brought to court in an ambulance and was said to be suffering from health challenges that affected his ability to walk and actively participate in the proceedings. The court noted that he had also missed a previous hearing due to health-related reasons.

Following the development, Justice Muyideen adjourned the case until July 3, 2026, for continuation of trial and ordered that the defendant remain in custody at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre.

Meanwhile, the other two defendants, Pablo and Bariga in the matter, who had earlier been remanded at the Kirikiri Custodial Centre and are also facing charges in connection with the case, appeared before the court. Their matter was likewise adjourned to the next hearing date.
