Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved the appointment of Alhaji (Prince) Shamsudeen Adebayo Apelogun as the Amirul Hajj for the 2026 pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to a seamless and spiritually fulfilling exercise for Muslim pilgrims. A similar appointment structure was successfully used for the previous Hajj operation.

In the same development, Sheikh Zakariyah Ishaq Olorungbebe was named Chairman of the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board for the 2026 Hajj operation, with the responsibility of overseeing the board’s administrative and operational activities. The appointments are part of the governor’s early strategic preparations aimed at ensuring proper coordination, comfort, and safety for Ogun contingents.

Governor Abiodun charged both appointees to discharge their duties with diligence, integrity, and total commitment, stressing the importance of effective leadership and collaboration in delivering a hitch free pilgrimage experience. He also reassured intending pilgrims of the state government’s continued support through the necessary institutional framework.
