The Executive Chairman of the Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Hon. John Campos Ogundare has on Tuesday, held a stakeholders' meeting at the Council Secretariat in Sangotedo.
Hon. Ogundare also charged youths, religious, and traditional leaders to join the fight against drug abuse.
Speaking at the stakeholders' meeting, the chairman stated that drug abuse is a very serious issue affecting the community at large, adding that apart from destroying the future, misuse of drugs also affects everyone associated with you.
He urged individuals to desist from drug abuse.
In her speech, the medical officer in charge of abuse, Protection Network, Eti-Osa LGA, Dr. Ifadoyin Marylove Olatunbosun stated that drug abuse is when you take drugs outside medical prescription and for pleasure.
Involving in drugs or substance abuse causes abusers mental health problems, such as depression, developmental lags, apathy, withdrawal, and other psychosocial dysfunctionsβ, she added.
Hon John Campos Ogundare who seized the medium of the event to reel out the achievements of his administration also urged critical stakeholders in the community to work with the government to ensure Eti-Osa East LCDA become a βdrug-freeβ LCDA .
In the same development, Hon. Ogundare also hinted that work had begun at the permanent site of the Council Secretariat in 10 Family, Abraham Adesanya.
The Chairman assured stakeholders that the Secretariat would be completed in 9 months going by plans on ground.
Hon. Ogundare also set up a monitoring committee to see to the completion of the building.
Hon Ogundare was commended for his efforts at ensuring Eti-Osa East LCDA experience development. Baale of Alasia, Alhaji Mustapha Okunmoyinbo prayed for the chairman and asked God for enablement for him to complete the good works he has started in Eti-Osa East LCDA.
